Private New Build, Poyntzpass
A traditional style house with all the modern technology. Read how owner Fergal Magee built an energy efficient home to suit his family requirements.
Fergal Magee lives in Poyntzpass just outside Newry, Co. Down. He's married to Karen, has 3 teenage children, a cat, a dog and is a building contractor for 20+ years.
Karen and I wanted a traditional style house with all the modern technology.
We wanted to fit a Beam Central Vacuum System in the house, so we didn’t need to pull a portable cleaner through the house after us. It's so easy to use, you just plug it into the wall inlet and it starts automatically.
Don’t miss the opportunity to install the Central Vacuum System when you’re building your new home. It’s such a small part of the overall build cost. It lasts much longer than any other appliances in your home.
The MVHR unit is brilliant. It leaves a freshness in the house that every time you walk through the door you think you’re coming into a new house. There’s no condensation in our bathrooms, kitchen or utility area. The air in the house is always fresh and clean. There are no draughts in the house and I have saved on my heating bills.
If you’re building your own home I would advise to plan for your ventilation system early and prioritise it within your budget.
We’re building our house to a high level of airtightness and insulation. As part of our thinking we wanted our home to be as energy efficient as possible. We really didn’t want to have trickle vents in our good windows, and we didn’t want noisy extraction fans coming from our bathrooms and en-suites, but we still needed to meet building regulation requirements.
Beam are always at the end of the phone if we ever need them and they’re a company that we can trust. Friendly, knowledgeable and trustworthy!
