Sustainable Guide inspires fresh approach to building

The new Sustainable Building Guide details the key aspects needed to achieve an energy efficient, cost effective and sustainable new build home.

Produced by cross border organisation Smart Eco Hub to assist and educate those in the construction industry, Beam Vacuum & Ventilation were proud to be a part of a group of eight cross border companies who contributed to the 60 page guide.

A fantastic information tool and beneficial for architects, specifiers and self-builders interested in sustainable building

The guide was officially launched by NI Environment Minister Mark H Durkan at Parliament Buildings Stormont, and coincides with the recent transfer of planning powers from DOE to councils.

Speaking at the launch, which saw representatives from local businesses, government and the construction industry, Minister Durkan said "I very much support the use of sustainable renewable technologies in new buildings.  We have geared planning policy to help integrate renewable energy technology into the design, siting and layout of existing and new buildings."

"This Guide demonstrates another good example of the benefits of collaboration between local authorities and the private sector.  It has produced a practical document that can be applied in the planning and adaption of building both North and South."

The Minister also stressed the importance of working together to share our experiences and exchange ideas that will support our wider understanding of issues that affect our environment.

"Sustainable building design can deliver buildings with lower running costs, an attribute that is highly attractive to both householders and businesses."
